Pemphigus foliaceus

Pemphigus foliaceus

Pemphigus foliaceus is and autoimmune blistering disorder in which cleavages in the superficial epidemis result in cutaneous erosions. Pemphigus foliaceus mostly occurs in middle-aged individuals, affecting both sex in equal numbers. Pemphigus foliaceus is generated by IgG autoantibody against desmoglein 1 (Dsg1), a transmembrane glycoprotein cadherin important to cell–cell adhesion and signaling between keratinocytes.

Panel test:

·     Immunogenetics:

o    Increased incidence of HLA-DQ1, DR4; DR7 may confer resistance.

·        Autoantibodies

o   anti desmoglein-1 (a cadherin) antibody.

o   anti Desmoglein-3 antibody (Dsg-3)
